Tokay Gecko Care

Enclosure

Tokay Geckos should have an enclosure at least 36 in in height. They are an arboreal species and prefer height to length or width.

Temperature

  • Basking area temperature: 90-100°F (32-38°C)
  • Cool zone temperature: 80-85°F (26-29°C)
  • Nighttime temperature: 76-80°F (24-26°C)

All heat sources should be controlled with thermostats. Radiant heat panels or ceramic heat emitters are preferred.

Humidity

Tokay geckos do best in a high-humidity environment with humidity levels between 60-80%

Feeding

Tokay geckos are insectivores, which means that they need a varied diet of insects to get the right nutrition.

Feed Tokay geckos as many insects  as they can eat in 5 minutes twice weekly. Insects should be no bigger than the width of the Tokay gecko's head.

Best feeder insects for tokay geckos: crickets, dubia roaches, discoid roaches, red runner roaches, grasshoppers/locusts, hornworms, silkworms

Water

Mist your Tokay Gecko's enclosure twice daily. They will drink water droplets after misting and typically will not use a water dish.
